Golfers carded a lot of birdies on a challenging course last week at the Nanaimo Men's Amateur golf tournament.
One of the Nanaimo Golf Club's annual premier tournaments was contested last Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 8-10.
Matthew Wilson, a teen bound for the NCAA Div. 1's Weber State at the end of the summer, was this year's low gross winner on his home course, carding a 208, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Blair Sturrock of Arbutus Ridge.
Another Nanaimo Golf Club member, Paul Pickles, won the low net competition with an adjusted score of 208, two strokes ahead of NGC's Brian Ranger.
In the first flight, Ron Frolek of Uplands Golf Club was the winner in low gross while Connor Gann of Victoria Golf Club was the low net winner. In second flight, Nanaimo's Tory Strangways won low gross and Vito Caldarulo won low net. Third flight saw Cedar Hill's Daniel Bouthillier win low gross, with Nanaimo's Darryl Robson winning low net. In fourth flight it was NGC's Tim Cullen winning low gross and Marine Drive's Jared Dreyer taking low net.
