Money was raised to support people who have suffered through the loss of a pregnancy or infant, or inability to have children, through a walk in Nanaimo this weekend.
The Butterfly Run took place at Westwood Lake Park on Saturday, Oct. 5, with 330 participants.
Alex Hale, event organizer, said money raised will go to support bereaved parents across Vancouver Island. Participants could walk or run on one- or five-kilometre routes.
One in four women will experience a miscarriage or perinatal loss, according to the non-profit's website and one in six Canadians experience infertility. Many services are offered, according to Hale.
"We offer counselling, at no charge," she said. "We have support groups. We have events, such as today, to bring together community. We offer virtual counselling as well."
The park was packed in the lead up to start time, something that pleased organizers.
"It's a group I wish nobody was a part of, but I'm grateful to have the community here and those coming together," Hale shared.
