Vancouver Island Exhibition organizers are willing to donate $700 to Nanaimo community groups that volunteer to sell tickets at this year's fair.
VIEX takes place Friday-Sunday, Sept. 20-22 at the fairgrounds at Beban Park and according to a press release, volunteers are still needed. Groups manning ticket booths will be responsible for providing at least two people at all times from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 20-21 and from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 22.
"It is up to each organization to schedule appropriate coverage throughout the day, the press release said. "While shifts can vary depending on the number of individuals available in the organization, it is usually suggested that shifts be scheduled between four to six hours per person."
One person will be responsible for handling payment while the other will affix wristbands. Volunteers are expected to be polite and cordial with customers.
"Ticket booths are the first interactions that [the] community deals with when coming into our annual event," said the press release. "The expectations that the VIEX strives to provide them is a friendly, engaging, yet professional experience as they make admission payments into our event and the starting point to a fun-filled day for themselves and their families."
In addition to the $700 donation, organizers will also provide free same-day admission to all participating volunteers.
People who want to volunteer can contact Stephen Kass, VIEX treasurer, at skass@viex.ca or 250-739-2020.
VIEX will be celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. For more information on the fair, visit www.viex.ca.
