A three-story apartment building close to Bowen Road will bring 21 units to Nanaimo’s housing inventory.
The city received the development application on behalf of Brian and Johanna McCullough for the residential development at 2126 Meredith Rd. Jeremy Holm, city director of planning and development, told council at a meeting Dec. 2 that the application is a renewal of a development permit that was previously approved in 2019.
An existing house on the site will be re-located or demolished to make way for the development, which will include nine studio units and 12 one-bedroom units ranging in size from 450-750 square feet. Small car parking spaces will be under the building, secure long-term bicycle storage will be provided on the ground floor, and short-term bicycle parking will be located near the building’s front entrance.
Plumbing features will use 35 per cent less water than the B.C. Building Code standard and the development will meet at least Step 3 of the B.C. Energy Step Code, which exceeds the city’s building bylaw requirement by one step.
Council had no questions about the development and approved the application.
