With a federal election coming, all major parties have now announced their candidates in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding.

Prime Minister Mark Carney officially asked Governor-General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament on Sunday, March 23, with general voting day set for April 28.

The slate for Nanaimo-Ladysmith matches that of 2021, with the same candidates again on the ballot in 2025. Incumbent member of Parliament Lisa Marie Barron will again represent the New Democratic Party of Canada and Tamara Kronis, who received the second-most votes in 2021, is again the Conservative Party of Canada candidate. Stephen Welton will again run for the People's Party of Canada. On Saturday, March 22, the Liberal Party of Canada announced Michelle Corfield was acclaimed as Nanaimo-Ladysmith candidate.

The Green Party of Canada is expected to announce Paul Manly, Nanaimo city councillor, as its candidate on Monday, March 24.

On Jan. 6, former prime minister Justin Trudeau requested Parliament be prorogued until Saturday, March 24, and also announced his resignation. Carney won the Liberal Party of Canada leadership on March 9.
