The one-year anniversary of Umo introduction on area buses recently passed and RDN Transit reminds customers that bus tickets won't be sold for much longer.
Umo tap-card and mobile app were rolled out on Regional District of Nanaimo Transit in November 2023 and 10-ticket sheets and monthly and semester transit passes will no longer be sold effective Dec. 1, the RDN said in a press release. As Umo is not used for custom transit tickets, HandyDart customers will not be affected.
A digital day pass is automatically applied to a Umo app or card after a second cash balance fare payment of the day.
Bus passengers will still be able to pay with cash and continue to use a B.C. Bus Pass Program pass, if they qualify. Customers who purchase fare products prior to Dec. 1 can continue to pay their fare with them until they are used up, the RDN said.
Interac or credit cards are not currently viable, but are expected to be usable in the future, according to the press release.
