Non-profits and volunteer groups looking to improve waterways can apply for up to $10,000 from the Regional District of Nanaimo to aid in their projects.
In a press release, the RDN said it has a total of $55,000 in 2025 available in drinking water and watershed protection stewardship seed funding for community projects that "monitor, restore or enhance regional watercourses." Grants of between $1,000 and $10,000 are available and projects spanning numerous years can apply yearly for up to three straight years.
In order to qualify for funding, projects must be organized by a non-profit organization with volunteers from the community. Other criteria include that projects must be jointly funded with other partners, via donors or with in-kind donations.
Groups must be in possession of all permissions and permits related to projects, which must "actively enhance or monitor stream, river, lake, estuary, wetland health, hydrology or function," the regional district said. Projects in line with RDN-supported stream assessments or water quality monitoring will receive priority.
There is no deadline to apply. For more information on the program, visit www.rdn.bc.ca/drinking-water-and-watershed-protection. To apply, visit http://rdn.bc.ca/stewardship-seed-funding.
