Vancouver Island University will receive over half a million dollars to help adult learners progress to post-secondary education and potentially high-demand jobs.
In a press release, the B.C. Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills announced that VIU has been granted $600,000 for adult basic education and English language learning pathway programs.
The two programs were launched in 2022 and offer courses for domestic students to enhance English, math and science skills in order to advance to post-secondary programs such as health care, skilled trades, technology and early childhood education. It enables them to "integrate into post-secondary life, tailoring programs to [their] target careers or disciplines, and offering career guidance and additional academic support," the press release stated.
In all, the B.C. government will provide $4 million to 11 post-secondary institutions for similar programming over the next two years.
