Nanaimo RCMP is asking the public to help locate a man police describe as a violent offender.

A warrant has been issued for Michael Mclellan, 39, for failing to appear in provincial court in Nanaimo on a robbery charge.

Police allege that in late November, the accused assaulted a woman by punching her in the face several times and then stole her purse. He was located that same day and arrested for robbery and was released with a promise to appear in court at a later date.

The accused, of no fixed address, is believed to be in the Nanaimo area and is described as 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with brown hair, a beard and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and refer to file No. 2024-38269.
