Man in hospital after being attacked in Nanaimo's south end

A victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an assault in the south end of Nanaimo yesterday.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the man, who was experiencing homelessness, was sitting on a curb at the 100 block of Nicol Street on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. when he was approached by a suspect in dark clothing.  An altercation occurred, police say, after which the suspect fled, running toward downtown. First responders arrived and police were not able to locate the suspect.

B.C. Emergency Health Services treated the patient on scene before transporting him to hospital.

Anyone with information, or dash cam video footage, who may have been in the area between 10:15-10:40 a.m. on Oct. 8 is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP's non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, citing file No. 2024-33048.
