Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a suspect connected to an assault on Nicol Street in October.

According to an RCMP press release, police conducted an investigation into a violent assault that happened in the early morning of Oct. 8 in the 100 block of Nicol Street, which resulted in the victim, an adult man, being transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect, a 45-year-old Nanaimo man, from video surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect Nov. 8 and on Thursday, Nov. 21, during an unrelated incident of trespassing, he was located and arrested. The suspect is being held in police custody to await his next court appearance in provincial court in Nanaimo on Dec. 10.

The investigation continues and no further charges are expected.
