The City of Nanaimo’s alternative approval process to gain electoral approval to borrow $90 million for public works yard upgrades is wrapping up.

The project includes a fleet maintenance building and an administration building to replace aging facilities at the Labieux Road property.

Nanaimo citizens opposed to borrowing the money for the project have until Thursday, Oct. 31, to vote against the borrowing bylaw by filling out a response form. The forms can be printed off from the City of Nanaimo website or picked up at city hall, and must be dropped off at city hall or submitted electronically by 4:30 p.m. No action is required by those in favour of borrowing for the project.

If 10 per cent or more of eligible voters submit a form opposing the borrowing bylaw, it will be brought back to city council to determine if council would like to proceed with the project and the next steps to be taken.
