Residents of electoral ridings in the Nanaimo area can begin casting their ballots for the 2024 B.C. provincial election.
Voting stations are open for early voting taking place Thursday to Sunday, Oct. 10-13 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Stations in the Nanaimo-Lantzville riding are at Beban Park Social Centre (2300 Bowen Rd.) and Wellington Hall (3922 Corunna Ave.).
Costin Hall (7232 Lantzville Rd.) will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Friday to Sunday, Oct. 11-13.
For Nanaimo-Gabriola Island, early voting is open at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 256 (1630 East Wellington Rd.), Nanaimo Moose Lodge No.1052 (1356 Cranberry Ave.) and St. Paul's Anglican Church in downtown Nanaimo (100 Chapel St.).
Voters in Ladysmith-Oceanside can take advantage of early voting at the Craig Street Commons gym (330 Craig St., Parksville) from Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 10-13. Advance polling is also available at Saltair Community Centre (3850 South Oyster Rd., Ladysmith) Thursday-Sunday, Oct.10-12, as well as the Christian Fellowship Centre (825 Village Way, Qualicum Beach). Stz'uminus Health Centre (2945 Shell Beach Rd., Ladysmith) will also offer polling on Saturday, Oct. 12. All from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Gabriola Elementary School (680 North Rd.) will be open for voting from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday to Sunday, Oct. 12-13. Building 300 at Vancouver Island University's Nanaimo campus (900 Fifth St.) will be open on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Following Thanksgiving Monday, early voting opportunities will also be available Tuesday to Wednesday, Oct. 15-16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Moose Lodge No. 1052, Legion Branch 256, St. Paul's church, Beban Park and Wellington Hall.
The Craig Street Commons gym in Ladysmith will be open Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 15-16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Last chance to vote is Saturday, Oct. 19 with all stations open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
For Nanaimo-Gabriola Island, stations will be located at Gabriola Elementary, Moose Lodge No. 1052, Legion Branch 256, St. Paul's and Bayview Elementary School (140 View St.), Beacon House (208 Colvilleton Trail), Cedar Elementary School (2215 Gould Rd. W.) Cranberry fire hall (1555 Morden Rd.), Fairview Community School (205 Howard Ave.), Georgia Avenue Community School (625 Georgia Ave.), Nanaimo Alliance Church (1609 Meredith Rd.), Nanaimo Christian School (198 Holland Rd.), Nanaimo Yacht Club (400 Newcastle Ave.) and Park Avenue Elementary School (395 Eighth St.).
Final voting for Nanaimo-Lantzville will be available at Beban Park, Costin Hall, Wellington Hall as well as Departure Bay Baptist Church (3510 Departure Bay Rd.), Destiny Worship Centre (4900 Hammond Bay Rd.), Dover Bay Secondary School (6135 McGirr Rd.), Oliver Woods Community Centre (6000 Oliver Rd.) and Pleasant Valley Elementary School (6201 Dunbar Rd.).
In addition to the places holding advance polling, the Ladysmith-Oceanside electorate can also vote at Frank Jameson Community Centre (810 6th Ave., Ladysmith), the Jensen Centre (132 Jensen Ave. E., Parksville), Kwalikum Secondary School (266 Village Way, Qualicum Beach), Lasqueti Community Hall (206 Main Rd., Lasqueti Island), Nanoose Place (2925 Northwest Bay Rd, Nanoose Bay), North Oyster Community Centre (13467 Cedar Rd., Ladysmith), Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church (550 Pym St. N., Parksville) and Saltair Community Centre (3850 South Oyster School Rd., Ladysmith)
Candidates for the new Nanaimo-Gabriola Island are Sheila Malcolmson (B.C. NDP) Shirley Lambrecht (B.C. Green Party) and Dale Parker (Conservative Party of B.C.)
Candidates for the other new riding, Nanaimo-Lantzville, are Gwen O'Mahony (Conservative Party of B.C.), Lia Versaevel (B.C. Green Party) and George Anderson (B.C. NDP).
