The Vancouver Island Symphony will have a guest artist for its Christmas show this coming weekend.
Festive Brass will join the symphony to put on a show called Reindeer Games: the Sequel on Nov. 30 at the Port Theatre.
“This heartwarming, hilarious concert is the perfect kickoff to the holiday season. Whether you were part of last year’s ‘games’ or you’re joining for the first time, expect even more surprises, musical merriment and a little friendly reindeer rivalry," noted a press release. "Maestro Cosette Justo Valdés will lead the symphony through a seasonal selection guaranteed to have your heart soaring as high as Santa’s sleigh."
The show will get the audience involved in the “zany reindeer shenanigans” and promises to deliver familiar holiday favourites, with a few unexpected twists along the way.
“Don't miss this merry musical extravaganza that promises to fill your heart with laughter, joy, and holiday cheer. Perfect for kids, adults, and anyone who believes in the magic of Christmas,” the press release added.
The Vancouver Island Symphony strings and the VIS Noteworthy Kids Choir will join to perform arrangements including What Child is This and the Angel Choir and the Trumpeter. The symphony describes it as a “brilliantly bold, jazzy, and sometimes downright quirky arrangements coupled with humorous repartee and plenty of personality.”
Reindeer Games: the Sequel will be at the Port Theatre for two shows Nov. 30, a 3 p.m. family show and a 7:30 p.m. performance. Tickets can be purchased from the Port Theatre’s website, http://porttheatre.com.
