Judy Millar will be holding a book launch for 'Other Than That, I'm Fine: Essays on Life and Other Inconveniences' on Sept. 8 at Unitarian Hall.

A Nanaimo author and storyteller hopes to have readers laughing through the pages of her latest book.

Judy Millar will be holding a book launch on Sunday, Sept. 8, for Other Than That, I’m Fine: Essays on Life and Other Inconveniences, a collection of humorous essays, stories and poems.

In a press release, Millar said she likes looking at life through a comic lens, and Other Than That, I’m Fine includes stories about plucking chickens, awkward kissing, pet peeves and more.

“We set out with great plans. Then stuff happens. We might as well laugh about it,” Millar said in a press release.

She added that her aim is to share the gift of laughter, whether that’s through the written word or with her on-stage storytelling.

“Humour helps us handle the stresses of life,” she said. “Moments of humour are a reprieve. We come back refreshed, better able to cope.”

The book launch Sept. 8 will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Unitarian Hall, with books available for $20. There will be a second book launch event Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at Nanaimo North Library.
