Nanaimo students will put classic fairy tale characters into a new story at the Port Theatre with the musical Into the Woods.

Nanaimo District Secondary School's performing arts students aim to captivate audiences with storytelling and vocals Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 13-14.

“At its heart, Into the Woods is about the realization that our choices impact not just ourselves, but those around us,” said director Kelly Barnum in a press release. “It’s a story of growth and resilience, which resonates deeply with our young performers and audiences alike.”

The show follows Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood and other familiar faces on a journey into the woods to pursue their dreams. According to the release, they encounter unforeseen consequences that challenge their choices and perspectives on life.

Both days' showings are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20-30 and can be purchased at www.porttheatre.com.
