A Canadian singer-songwriter is debuting a brand-new album this month, and one of her first tour stops will be Nanaimo.

Terra Spencer, from Nova Scotia, is touring Sunset, her fourth studio album, and will play the Unitarian Hall on Sept. 20, in a show promoted by Harbour City Concerts.

Spencer is celebrating the album with solo shows across the country leading up to a series of full-band shows in the Maritimes.

Sunset's tracks range from the "summery nostalgic snapshot" Seventeen, to the poignant and powerful solo piano piece Something About Paris, to the sweet folksy Valentine Blue, to the Commonwealth Song Contest winner Brick and Mortar.

"Sunset paints a spectrum of love from its vibrant early moments to the last light of goodbye," noted a press release. "Its dozen songs illustrate Terra's writing range and startling knack for capturing intimate moments."

The album was recorded at the Sonic Temple Recording Studio in Halifax, which the artist noted was experiencing a sunset of its own before moving locations after more than two decades.

WHAT'S ON … Terra Spencer plays Unitarian Hall on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Doors at 7 p.m. Tickets available at www.eventbrite.ca.
