Malaspina Choir will bring A Child’s Christmas in Wales to life with more than 80 carollers and an actor reading the classic Dylan Thomas piece.

“The prose of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas rings in our ears over 70 years after his recording of 1952," noted a news release from Malaspina Choir. "We imagine all the delightful, comical characters of his little seaside town, as the young Thomas chases cats, puts out a fire with snowballs, and goes carolling to a dark, spooky house. For many, listening to Dylan Thomas’s voice is a tradition every Christmas.”

Audience members can experience Adrian Hough as Dylan Thomas at two concerts, one in Nanaimo and one in Parksville. There will be 14 carols sung by members of Malaspina Choir and Sinclair Singers interspersed throughout the show, including some original musical arrangements and traditional ones.

“Collaboration is such an important aspect of choral life in the central Island. We welcome Sharon Sinclair’s talented young adults to the stage. They will sing their own pieces and join with Malaspina Choir for a number of carols,” said Fiona Blackburn, Malaspina Choir artistic director.

There will be chances for audience members to sing along during the show.

The release added that the singers are hoping to fulfill families’ traditions of reading A Child's Christmas in Wales in a live performance setting.

The first show will be in Nanaimo on Dec. 13 at St. Andrew’s United Church, starting at 7 p.m. The second will be in Parksville at Knox United Church on Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from the Port Theatre box office or at the door. They are $30 for adults, $13.50 for youths under 25 and free for children 12 and under.
