The Island Consort Chamber Choir will sing with 'The Joy of Christmas' this weekend.
Two concerts Dec. 14-15 in Nanaimo and on Gabriola Island promise to mix the sentiments of Renaissance and Baroque composers with modern seasonal music. The Nanaimo concert will feature Christmas Cantata Gloria in Excelsis Deo, BWV 191 by Bach, a 16-minute piece accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra.
“The choir will also be accompanied with organ and piano on several pieces by Jenny Vincent and we will have an audience singalong to complement the spirit of the occasion, to truly feel the Joy of Christmas,” noted a news release from the choir.
The Nanaimo show will be at St. Andrew’s United Church on Dec. 14 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for students and free for children under 13. The Gabriola show is at Christ Church on Dec. 15. Tickets are $20 at the door, $5 for students and free for kids. Christmas Cantata will not be performed at the Gabriola show because of space constraints at the venue.
