Christmas lovers in Nanaimo can get into the spirit early with a festive Celtic music show.

The Barra MacNeils will stop in Nanaimo this month on a coast-to-coast tour, playing the Port Theatre on Nov. 17.

“Steeped in Atlantic tradition with strong Celtic roots and musical artistry, this diversely talented group of four brothers and a sister from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, is widely regarded as one of the greatest live acts in the Celtic world,” noted a release from the Port Theatre.

The band is a five-time East Coast Music Award winner and has opened for Céline Dion. The group’s recording includes classic instrumental and vocal songs, as well as original music.

“Barra MacNeils’ East Coast Christmas is a treat for all ages and walks of life. The five siblings are known for their brilliant instrumentals, ringing harmonies and delightful flair for storytelling. Their unique seasonal show is crafted each year to bring a special Celtic spin on traditional favourites and original east coast treasures with songs, stories and dance,” the release noted.

The Christmas show promises to be a heart-warming, family concert filled with musical gems such as O Holy Night, Ave Maria and Christmas in Killarney.

Tickets are available at http://porttheatre.com. The tour will also includes two stops in Sidney, which are sold out.
