A unqiue concert that combines indie-rock with classical music is set to take place this weekend.

On Friday (June 6) the award-winning Coastal Sound Youth Choir (CSYC) will be performing a variety of a variety of popular cover songs at St. Andrew’s Church.

The event, which is called  Indiekör, features singers between the ages of 15-23 covering songs from a wide range of bands including the Rolling Stones and Hey Ocean.

“We do covers of our favourite indie-rock bands,” said CSYC conductor Carrie Tennant.

This is the second year in a row that CSYC has performed in Nanaimo, and Tennant said  the trip over from Coquitlam is a good bonding experience for the kids.

“We are all bringing sleeping bags and crashing on the floor of St. Andrew’s after this,” Tennant said. “It’s a good bonding experience.”

The Coastal Sound Youth Choir perform at St. Andrew’s Church, 311 Fitzwilliam St., on Friday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6.50 for students.
