The Vancouver Island Symphony is bringing women who believe in the power of art to create more vibrant communities together.
The symphony hosts its first Women of Note meeting of the season Thursday (Oct. 29), 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Nanaimo Museum. The networking opportunity feature three artisans from Vancouver Island including Valerie Lamirande, Mary Desprez and Titia Jetten.
Lamirande is the owner of RavenSong Artisan Soap. She was born and raised on Haida Gwaii.
Desprez works as a producer of live theatre at High Road. She'll discuss what to wear to everything from sponsor meetings, construction site inspections and gala opening nights.
Jetten is originally from the Netherlands. She moved to Nanaimo in 2009 and created her own independent art label, Balbina Studio.
The networking group was created for women to come together and celebrate the arts in their community. Women who join donate a minimum contribution of $10 a month for a year. This donation is used to allow Grade 4 students in the central Island region to attend a performance by the Vancouver Island Symphony.
