Vancouver Island University releases its latest edition of Portal magazine.

Portal officially launches Thursday (April 6) at Cavallotti Lodge, located at 2060 E. Wellington Rd. The launch is from 6-7:30 p.m. and a reception is being held from 7:50-9:30 p.m. There will be a cash bar and silent auction.

Attendees are encouraged to wear semi-formal attire. Tickets are $15 available at the door.

Portal is a literary magazine that was created in 1991 and is created by Vancouver Island University creative writing students under the guidance of Joy Gugeler, a professor in the university’s creative writing and journalism department. Portal began as a pamphlet and has grown into a glossy magazine that is available in print and online.

For Portal’s latest edition, media studies students reached out to First Nations students at Vancouver Island University to share their stories. Besides stories, the magazine also includes science-focused poetry, artwork and more.
