Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Adam Bailie spent the last five months looking through 10 years worth of songs to determine what would make the cut for his debut album.
He said the crowds he’s been playing for over the years helped him narrow it down.
“From playing live for the past 10, 15 years and having some of these songs being a part of that journey, I’ve kind of realized what’s working and what the audience is responding to the best,” Bailie said. “So I really wanted to make a record that was going to be a great live album.”
The result of that work is the folk-reggae hybrid Beachhead, which Bailie describes as a collection of “West Coast, laid back … easy going, easy listening, good-vibe music.”
Bailie is touring the album across Vancouver Island, starting with a show at the Nanaimo Bar on Thursday, Jan. 17.
Bailie will be joined by bassist/didgeridooist Jeff Child and percussionist Reid Hendry.
“My percussionist also plays the steel drum, which totally suits the beach vibe and it sometimes takes over the show because it’s just such a unique and fun instrument,” Bailie said. “And then myself I do have a vocoder that seems to really cut through and be an interesting part of the show as well. We do some live looping on stage but for the most part we’re just playing really great songs and trying to get great energy going.”
