Singing workshops aimed at youth

Song writing part of summer course

Alexandria Maillot will help lead summer singing workshops aimed at youth.

Super Summer Singing Workshops return to Headliners for the fourth year, led by Doug Dodd and guest youth teacher Maillot, in July and August.

Maillot, a recording artist and actor, will be leading workshops with Dodd in contemporary singing and singer-songwriter for youth aged eight to 18 who want to learn and develop new singing, writing and performance skills.

Contemporary singing focuses on solo and chorus singing, teaching correct breathing techniques for maximum efficiency and power.

The workshop will also focus on vocal delivery and releasing the natural voice while singing selections from rock, country, blues, jazz and ballads.

The workshop runs July 11-15 and Aug. 8-12, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Singer-songwriter workshops look at popular songwriting while enhancing performance and presentation skills. Students will write songs alone and in groups and perform the songs of their classmates when needed.

Electric piano, stands, amps and bass are provided but if a student plays or writes with an instrument, they should bring it.

Workshop runs Aug. 22-26, 1-5 p.m.

Each course costs $275. Students signing up for more than one workshop receive a $50 discount on additional courses.

All materials, plus snacks, are provided. Workshops conclude with a performance at Headliners.

To register, or for more information, please contact Dodd at 250-741-8857 or doug.dodd@shaw.ca, or Headliners at 250-753-2323  or info@headliners.ca.
