Celebrating the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is at the heart of the show Oh What A Night.

It’s not about imitating the originals, said Rick Morgan, a performer with the show. It’s about creating a musical revue that pays homage to the originals and allows people to hear it live. Each performer is themselves onstage. They don’t play characters.

“It’s an all around feel-good show, fun for the whole family,” said Morgan, adding that he has heard kids at the end of concert begging their parents to buy the music.

Unlike the original Four Seasons performance, the tribute artists add choreography to the songs.

“It’s energetic and fun,” said Morgan. “It’s a very lively show.”

The performers will also strip down the songs and sing a cappella versions of them.

“Sometimes we sing a cappella and it brings it down to the nuts and bolts,” said Morgan. “You can usually hear a pin drop in there when we are doing the a cappella songs.”

Morgan said Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons’ work has longevity. He attributes some of that to the simplicity of the songs, saying they aren’t overpowered by overproduction in the music.

Oh What A Night: A Musical Tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is Saturday (April 15) at 7 p.m. Tickets are $57.50 available in advance by calling 250-754-8550 or by visiting www.porttheatre.com.
