Barbara Lorimer is featuring three of her favourite subjects at Nanaimo North Town Centre’s Art 10 Gallery.

Lorimer’s ‘Water Views’ will showcase acrylic paintings of sunsets, the ocean and beaches until the end of the month, according to a release by the gallery.

“I often do seascapes,” said Lorimer in the release. “Painting oceans is one of those things I ‘figured out.’ I enjoy the success with the subject and it gives me joy”.

Lorimer moved from Victoria to Nanaimo in 1976 and took up painting in 2001 after seeing some art work in a local gallery.

“I thought I could do this,” she said. “So I bought myself some paints and I started.”

The release also noted the painter’s favourite medium remains with acrylic paint, although stated that she has become comfortable with pastels.

“Thanks to the beauty of Vancouver Island, Lorimer never lacks for subjects to fill her canvases,” read the release. “An inspired and creative exhibit, her mastery of colour, brush marks and shapes shows the uncanny movement of both deep and shallow sea waters that bring her ocean paintings so alive, you can almost feel and hear the water move. The show will not disappoint.”

Lorimer’s ‘Water Views’ can be viewed during mall hours.
