Salt Spring Island Author shares knowledge of wild plants at Nanaimo's Seedy Sunday

Salt Spring author Dan Jason is sharing his knowledge of wild plants during Nanaimo's Seedy Sunday.

Jason is the owner of the mail order seed company Salt Spring Seeds. He founded the Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada, a charitable organization dedicated to preserve and promote heritage seeds and encourage local food production, in 2003

During Nanaimo's Seedy Sunday, he'll share information from his book Some Useful Wild Plants: A Foraging Guide to Food and Medicine from Nature. The author will have copies for sale.

The book features more than 100 wild plants in Canada. Originally released in 1971, the book is back in print. Since it was first released the guide has sold more than 30,000 copies.

Seedy Sunday, hosted by the Nanaimo Foodshare Society, is Sunday (March 5) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nanaimo District Secondary School, located at 355 Wakesiah Ave. Admission is $3.

The event includes a seed exchange, more than 60 exhibitors, garden and food products for sale, kids' activities, a seed swap and more. There are also nine free gardening workshops, that are one hour each, that run throughout the day.
