An open casting call is looking for extras for a blockbuster movie filming in Nanaimo in early October.

An open casting call is looking for extras for a blockbuster movie filming in Nanaimo in early October.

The film, under the working title Autumn Frost, is produced by Warner Bros. and directed by Zack Snyder, the director of the film 300.

Although the working title is Autumn Frost, it’s widely rumoured the film is Man of Steel, a retelling of the Superman comic book character. The total budget, listed on the Internet Movie Database, is pegged at $175 million.

Nanaimo residents may find themselves as extras in the films after attending the open casting call on Saturday (Aug. 20), 2-6 p.m., at the Coast Bastion Inn.

The casting company seeks men and women of all ages and types, especially those with character faces and strong lumberjack types. Women with waitressing experience are also sought.

No children will be needed during this casting call.

Extras chosen for the film must be available for one to two days in early October during filming.

Joan Miller, commissioner for the Island North Film Commission, said her organization has been working with the production company for about seven months. It’s the fourth feature film she’s worked on with Autumn Frost’s location manager.

“It’s a very small industry,” she said.

The film will also be shooting in the Ucluelet area, she added.

People unable to attend Saturday’s casting call can e-mail a headshot and contact info to movieextrasearch@shaw.ca.
