Two of Nanaimo's best musicians were recently nominated for Canada's top music honour. Blues artist David Gogo and jazz composer Christine Jensen were both nominated for a 2014 Juno Award.
Gogo's album Come On Down, which was released to Cordova Bay Records, was nominated for Blues Album of the Year. The nomination is Gogo's fifth. He received his first nomination in 1995 for Best New Solo Artist.Jensen's album Habitat was nominated for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. The saxophonist was born in Sechlet, B.C., but grew up in Nanaimo. Although this is her first Juno nomination, she collaborated on her sister, Ingrid Jensen's album Vernal Fields, which won a Juno Award. In the early 1990s Jensen relocated to Montreal, where she remains today.
Winners will be announced at the 43rd Annual Juno Awards, which take place on March 30 in Winnipeg.
