Nanaimo jazz students make provincewide honours bands

Four Wellington Secondary School students were selected among the thousands of those provincially eligible to play during the British Columbia Music Educators’ Association Conference this month.

According to a release, Wellington Jazz Academy Grade 12 students Thea Guitard on trombone and Sandro Jost on baritone sax were selected for the Honour Jazz Band. Grade 12 vocalist Sarah Stevenson was selected for the Honour Vocal Jazz Choir and Grade 11 vocalist Lauren Racz was selected for the Honour Concert Choir.

The students performed on Oct. 21 during the three-day conference, which was held at the River Rock Casino in Richmond this year and features the finest high school musicians in the province.
