Crimson Coast Dance Society has moved some of its planned Black History Month cultural events to the summer, but has curated some online content in the meantime.
The society is presenting its annual African Connections programming until Feb. 28 on its website, http://crimsoncoastdance.org.
“This event reveals the dynamic and diverse continent of Africa by highlighting intriguing stories by individuals whether through dance, history, writing, storytelling,” noted a press release from Crimson Coast.
African Connections is curated by and co-produced with Tania Amaral, a dance artist who moved to Nanaimo from Mozambique. This month’s feature is a free children’s video storytelling series called Karingana Wa Karingana, with Lethy Makwenge sharing lessons and tales from African countries in English, French, Lingala and Swahili.
“Be transported to climates, cultures and histories that pulse with hard-earned life, love and joy,” the release noted.
