One of Nanaimo’s best-known musicians will release a new album later this year.

Blues musician David Gogo is currently putting the final touches on his upcoming record, which he plans to release sometime in July.

“We pretty much finished recording,” Gogo said.

The upcoming album has not been named yet and will be Gogo’s 14th.

On Friday (May 29) Gogo will be performing some of his new tunes at Simon Holt.

The Juno Award nominee says he wanted to make the record transferable from the studio to the stage.

“I enjoy taking advantage of the recording studio ... and I have done that ... but sometimes it is very hard to replicate that on stage,” Gogo said. “So this time it is very trio-oriented and it’s us just kind of rocking out.”

Earlier this month the music industry lost a legend with the death of B.B. King, who died in Las Vegas at the age of 89.

Gogo said he was sad to hear of the legend’s passing.

“It is hard for me to imagine a world without B.B. King,” he said.

Gogo opened for King three times during his career.

“The last time was in Nanaimo and that was just amazing to have all my friends and family there,” Gogo said.

Gogo plays at Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. For tickets or for more information, please call 250-933-3338.
