Students of the Kismet Theatre Academy will be showing off their latest musical production this weekend.

On Friday (Feb. 27) and Saturday, the students, between the ages of 7 and 12, will be performing in the full-length musical Pippi Longstocking at the Harbour City Theatre.

Bonnie Catterson, choreographer and Kismet Theatre Academy owner, said that because the musical features younger actors, she and director Eliza Gardiner focused on having fun.

“They are pretty young and we just really focused on having a good time and showcasing what their own talents are,” Catterson said. “We just focused on having a good time and having a really fun show that is entertaining to watch.”

Pippi Longstocking is the story of a spunky little girl with superhuman powers who moves into a large house with her pet monkey and horse. Pippi Longstocking was originally written by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren as Pippi Långstrump in 1945.

The book was followed up by numerous sequels, which were eventually translated into English and other languages. Pippi Longstocking has since been adapted into various TV movies, feature films and plays.

Both shows run at 7 p.m. at the Harbour City Theatre, 25 Victoria Rd. Tickets are $15 or $12 for anyone under 12 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at Catwalk Fashions, Kismet Theatre Academy.
