After two years touring around the world, Montreal’s Cirque Éloize is bringing its current production, Saloon, to Nanaimo.

The show features live music, acrobatics and circus arts set in the old west.

“We’re kind of revisiting the construction of America. The saloon as a great playground,” said Jeannot Painchaud, president and chief creative officer of Cirque Éloize.

He added that performers will be swinging from beams, chandeliers and aerial apparatuses to the sounds of a western string band.

“We wanted to integrate a mix of composed music and music from the old traditional repertoire and some known pieces,” Painchaud said.

Saloon comes to the Port Theatre on Friday, Sept. 28. Painchaud said the show highlights the multidisciplinary skills of its 12 performers.

“We always work at finding the balance between the high acrobatic level and the theatricality, choreography and music.”
