A former Nanaimo couple who also perform as rock tribute artists are back in the Harbour City for the first time since they debuted their act one year ago.

On Oct. 3 David Danylchuk of Perfectly Petty and wife Raphael Roquemore of Gold Dust Gypsy are bringing their joint Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks tribute show to the Queen’s.

Danylchuk said they never sang together until they put together their tribute show. As Danylchuk’s background is in rock and Roquemore’s background is in opera, they never thought they had any musical common ground until recently.

“We’re bringing our two skill sets together,” he said. “And we’ve discovered that even though we never sang together for the lifetime of our marriage, once she stepped into the role of Stevie Nicks we realized how much our voices blend.”

Danylchuk said there’s a “naturalness” to their performance that comes from their off-stage relationship.

“I always catch myself looking up and just being super happy that I’m singing with my wife,” he said. “It’s just a magic moment for me every time.”

While the couple usually performs with full-band accompaniment, due to COVID-19 restrictions they’ll be performing a “stripped-down” version of the show as a duo. Danylchuk said the challenge is deciding on which songs to play.

“We’re finding it difficult to even edit the set down to fit in the time parameters because there are so many great songs to choose from that we’d love to play,” he said.

WHAT’S ON … Gold Dust Gypsy and Perfectly Petty perform at the Queen’s, 34 Victoria Cres., on Saturday, Oct. 3. Doors at 5:30 p.m., show at 6. Tickets $15 from davedastompetty@hotmail.com.
