The future of burlesque in Nanaimo is about to become a bit murky.

With recent management changes to the aging and neglected Nanaimo Centre Stage, local burlesque group Naughty and Spice will be holding its final performance on Saturday.

Naughty and Spice manager Goldie Lux  said in a press release that without the Nanaimo Centre Stage, future performances by the group are in jeopardy.

“We would love to see someone new keep the theatre running, it’s the best venue in town for what we do, and I don’t know where we’ll go without it,” Lux said.

As Nanaimo city council debates what to do with Nanaimo Centre Stage, Naughty and Spice has decided to call its final show, The Time Travel Project, which is an idea that group has wanted to do for years.

The Time Travel Project takes audience members back in time through a performance that looks at the history of burlesque.

“Our ultimate goal is for people to watch the show and just laugh until they fall out of their chairs wondering what on earth is going on, and how much sillier things can possibly get,” Lux said.

The Time Travel Project will take place at 8 p.m. this Saturday (June 21). Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door and are also available online at www.naughtyandspiceburlesque.com or by calling 250-797-2480.
