John Barsby Tour Band members are raising money to go to Disneyland in 2017.
The trip isn’t a vacation to enjoy the rides, but a rare opportunity to take workshops at Disney Music Studios. While at the studios, the band members will learn how to compose and play music to animated and live-action movies.
To make the dream happen, the band has to raise about $60,000. Members have already raised $20,000.
“The band has been working on it since last year,” said Leslie Sanger, coordinator of event.
On Saturday and Sunday (May 7-8) the band hosts a Mother’s Day Weekend Spring Flea Market and Music Café fundraiser at John Barsby Secondary School and Chandler Hall, located at 550 Seventh St. The event runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The band performs at the school’s Chandler Hall at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
There is a strawberries-and-cream pancake brunch available on both days for $5. During the edible plants sale, herbs, strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes and assorted flowers will be for sale from Providence Farm. Partial proceeds from the plant sale go to the band. All proceeds from other food and vendor sales at the event go to the band.
Admission is free.
