Jazz duo performs at Haven

NANAIMO - Jazz greats Phil Dwyer and Don Thompson perform at Gabriola's The Haven April 18.

Phil Dwyer and Don Thompson are celebrating 30 years of musical friendship with a tour of the West Coast this April.

The two musicians perform at Gabriola’s The Haven April 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door.

The musicians are regarded as two of Canada’s jazz greats.

Thompson, originally from Powell River has created award-winning recordings with jazz musicians such as Jim Hall, George Shearing, John Handy, Paul Desmond and Boss Brass.

In 2010 Thompson was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Dwyer hails from Qualicum Beach and is known as a pianist, saxophonist, composer and educator.

He received a Juno Award for his recording Changing Seasons and toured across Canada for his Canadian Songbook project.

The duo is promoting their newest album, Look For The Silver Lining, which is an exploration of the classic repertoire. It includes upbeat swing beats on The Touch of Your Lips and How About You and ballads such as I’ll Be Around and What’s New.
