The Island Consort Chamber Choir will perform ‘Lyrics of Love’ for both Nanaimo and Parksville audiences this month.

The choir will appear in Nanaimo at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 4235 Departure Bay Rd., on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m.

“The choir is pleased to present a very special spring program that combines heartfelt songs and fine soloists with a fitting selection of short poems by those such as Edgar Allen Poe, William Shakespeare, Robert Burns and Henry Longfellow,” noted director Bruce Farquharson in a press release. “The music transcends many genres, from plainchant and Baroque to Scottish folk to vocal jazz, with rhythm section – ending with a wonderful arrangement of Amazing Grace.”

For both concerts, admission at the door will be $20 for adults, $5 for students and free for youngsters under 13 years old.

The release noted that masks will be required by the audience, as the choir will also be masked, and that complete vaccination is strongly recommended.

The choir will also perform Monday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Parksville at the Knox United Church, 345 Pym St.
