Old Thomas is a gloomy gus and a grump.
During one of his regular, solitary walks on the beach, he discovers a tiny, injured girl in the sand. Despite his cranky ways, Old Thomas helps the girl and – to his surprise – his life is suddenly filled with happiness.
As he rediscovers joy and laughter, he wonders: could this special little girl be a fairy?
The story of love, life, loneliness and friendship is Old Thomas and the Little Fairy, a multimedia performance for the whole family at the Port Theatre.
The play and dance is inspired by the children’s book of the same name by Dominique Demers.
Set against a video backdrop, the ocean in its many states – calm, angry, brooding and serene – sets the scene to echo Old Thomas’s transformation from grumbling meanie to gentle man.
Bouge de là Dance Company was founded in 2000 under the artistic direction of Hélène Langevin and is one of the few in Quebec that dedicates itself entirely to the creation of choreographic works for young audiences.
The company presents contemporary dance works that draw upon a variety of disciplines such as video, acrobatics, theatre and shadow play, among others. Filled with humour and poetry, each performance seeks to create a lasting impression and show children the sheer pleasure of movement.
Old Thomas and the Little Fairy is set for April 3 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets $16. Please call 250-754-8550.
