A concert in Nanaimo this month will be be about the music, and will also be about thanking health-care workers and first-responders for their service during the pandemic.

Hawaiian musician Anela Kahiamoe and his band Men of Aloha are headlining a show called the Front-Line Heroes Concert on Sunday, March 27, at St. Andrew’s United Church.

Event organizer Rob Peterson noted in a press release that there will be representatives from Nanaimo’s medical community, firefighters, police and paramedics, and he’s asking all ticket buyers to bring a hand-written note or card expressing thanks. The messages will be forwarded to event sponsor the Nanaimo News Bulletin for potential publication.

“The concert is an opportunity for Nanaimo residents to express in person, their appreciation to the medical community, first responders and deliver their own message of support and appreciation,” Peterson said.

Joining Kahiamoe and his band will be bassist Steve Wallace, singer Ralph (Sinatra) Barrat, and trumpeter Greg Bush.

“The music concert will include a selection of special songs and words delivered in the spirit of Aloha,” noted the release.

Peterson has a vision of eventually collecting enough notes and messages of support and appreciation to turn into a book and asks that anyone interested in helping him move that concept forward e-mail him at robdrum02@gmail.com.

WHAT’S ON … Front-Line Heroes Concert featuring Anela Kahiamoe is Sunday, March 27, 2-4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church. Tickets $25, available at the Port Theatre.
