Grants available for creative writers

NANAIMO - The B.C. Arts Council is offering grants to assist writers.

The B.C. Arts Council is offering grants for creative writers in the province.

The Program Assistance for Creative writers’ grant is to assist professional writers who are creating a new manuscript or re-writing an existing work. Eligible genres include drama, fiction, graphic novels, juvenile, non-fiction, poetry and spoken word.

Applications may be made by individual writers or a collaborative effort between two or more authors.

There are to award levels: up to $6,000 and up to $12,000.

The deadline to apply for the grant is Sept. 15.

New applicants are encouraged to discuss their work with B.C. Arts Council staff members to ensure they qualify for the grant program.

Applicants must have had at least one book professionally published and be a Canadian citizen and lived in B.C. for a year prior to the application date.
