The Gabriola Arts Council has named its new executive director.

In a press release, the organization announced that Carol Fergusson, manager of the Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care Society’s GABE Shop, is succeeding Michelle Benjamin as the group’s second executive director.

“We are confident that she will capably steer GAC through this period of transition, while bringing to us new ideas and enthusiasm,” said GAC board member Mary Holdgrafer in the release. “We look forward to working with her.”

The press release notes that Fergusson has previously held roles with the GAC, including three years as curator of the Tour Central Preview Gallery for the Thanksgiving Studio Tour.

Farther afield, Fergusson served as an assistant gallery director at the Eagle’s Moon Gallery in Victoria and she has worked for apparel companies in Vancouver and Toronto in roles from design to management.

“Carol brings her arts management experience, knowledge of the community, and a deep understanding of working with volunteers to the role,” said the release.
