For five years, severed feet continued to wash up on the shores of Western Canada and Washington State.
Between 2007 and 2011, twelve feet in running shoes were discovered, yet no other body parts were found by police. The film, Severed Footage, explores the mystery.
It follows university students who are filming a history project on Kanaka Pete, an axe murderer who was hung for killing his family in Nanaimo. He was buried in an unmarked grave and the site is rumoured to be a hotspot for paranormal activity.
The film won best Sci-Fi/Horror Film at the Mississippi International Film Festival in October and the Award of Merit from the Lucerne International Film Festival in Switzerland. The film makes its Canadian premiere in Nanaimo Thursday (Nov. 22) 7 p.m. at Avalon Theatre in Woodgrove Centre.
