A six-member a cappella ensemble from Victoria is setting the stage for love birds during an upcoming concert.
The concert, Byrds and B’s, sung by the group Hexaphone was inspired by Valentine’s Day and is devoted to songs by composers whose names begin with the letter B. It features songs by Benjamin Britten, William Billings, Dave Brubeck and Irving Berlin.
Hexaphone, consists of Carolyn Howe, soprano; Hannah Mitchell, alto; John Doughty, tenor; Ian Bullen, tenor; Nicholas Fairbank, baritone and Paul Boughton bass.
The group was formed in 2002 and has won several awards including the Elmer Iseler Prize for the Best Performance of a Canadian composition at the International Choral Kathaumixw in Powell River.
The group has also performed at Victoria Symphony’s New Currents Festival, during the New Music In New Places concert series and were chosen to premiere five songs for B.C. by the Canadian Music Centre to celebrate the province’s 150th anniversary.
Hexaphone performs Sunday (Feb. 10) at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, located at 100 Chapel St.
Tickets are $15. Attendees 15 years and younger are free. Tickets are available at the door.
