Sophia Perlman is a fixture on the Ontario jazz scene and is taking her quartet out west to perform at Simon Holt on Tuesday (Sept. 17).

Since completing her studies at Humber College in Toronto, Sophia Perlman has become a fixture of the Ontario jazz and blues scene.

Now the songstress takes her music on the road with a show at Simon Holt Tuesday (Sept. 17).

Joining her at the show is Adrean Farrugia on piano; Ross MacIntyre on bass; and Jeff Halishuk on percussion.

Early choral training, and a knack for picking out harmony, nurtured a deep love for singing.

Her musicality, old-soul voice and skill as an improviser have made her a first call featured singer with some of the top ensembles and musicians in the country.

Her most recent recording Sophia Perlman & Adrean Farrugia: Alive at Musideum was released in 2012.

Perlman also works with youth to inspire more musicians. From 2008-13, she worked with the Canadian Children’s Opera Company’s OPERAtion KIDS outreach program, and during her tenure worked with close to 2,000 elementary aged students in Toronto.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. Tickets $20; $15/students at Fascinating Rhythm and the restaurant. For reservations, please call 250-933-3338.
