A popular Nanaimo venue is getting ready to rock around the Christmas tree with Victoria’s Neon Steve.

DJ and producer Steve Robertson, known professionally as Neon Steve, will have party-goers and Christmas-lovers “dance until their legs give out” this Friday at the Queen’s when he hosts an ugly sweater party.

“I love the Queen’s. It’s a long-standing Vancouver Island gem and the staff and crowd there are always easy-going, open-minded and fun,” said Robertson.

According to the host, his two-hour set will start close to midnight and will likely include a funny house remix of Jingle Bells to set the seasonal mood.

A regular at club and festival scenes, Robertson said he became obsessed with music in 2007 and has been “enjoying the ride” for the past 12 years as he pursues it professionally. The DJ originally from the north Island is as comfortable playing Victoria’s Capital Ballroom as he is the Shambhala Music Festival and Burning Man, playing roughly 50 to 75 per cent of original material in both environments.

“Something I really like about smaller, more intimate venues… is having the opportunity to connect with the crowd on a more intimate level,” he said.

Neon Steve’s ugly sweater party starts at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, at 34 Victoria Cres. Tickets can be purchased online in advance for $15 through www.myzonetickets.com.
