Dancers off to highland competition

Nanaimo Highland dancers earned spots in some of the most prestigious and challenging competitions in their season.

Rachel Bramley, 13, from Hammond Bay Elementary School, is off to Scotland this summer for the annual World Highland Dance Championships at the Cowal Highland Gathering. Prior to departure, she performs at the Port Theatre with the Brigadoon Dance Academy in Pride of Scotland, the school’s year-end dance presentation.

Also performing at the show are Samantha Beach and Jillian Peacock, who earned the right to represent British Columbia at the Canadian Highland dance championships in Antigonish, N.S.

Pride of Scotland is set for Sunday (June 12) at 2:30 p.m. Tickets $19; $16/students. Please call 250-754-8550.
