Concerto contest winner featured during concert

The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra presents Music for a Midsummer’s Eve on June 17.

The concert features music by Franz Xavier Richter and introduces audiences to his 18th-century written Sinfonia in C Minor.

In keeping with the Baroque era, the orchestra will also play Henry Purcell’s Pavane and Chaconne. Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D features pianist Seamas Finnerty, this year’s winner of the Concerto Competition for Young Musicians.

The orchestra’s dedication to mentorship and sponsorship of promising students allows for showcases of talent like Finnerty and other young musicians among the orchestra’s ranks.

The group will also be playing Elgar’s eloquent Elegy for Strings and Greig’s popular and nordic Holberg Suite.

The concert is set for Brechin United Church, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets $20; $10/student; children under 12 free, available at the Port Theatre or at the door.
